In continuation of my Despatch

No. 361 of the 24th. ultimo, I have the honour to forward

the enclosed copy of a letter from Mr. G. W. Eves, dated

the 30th. ultimo, together with the reply of the Colonial

Enclosure !

The loss due to the defective

designs is the original cost of erecting the Bridges plus

the cost of dismantling, less value of material used in re-

-construction. The cost of erecting and dismantling

Bridges Nos. 4, 7, and 8 is $75,043 from which is deducted

the sum of $10,000 for value of material available. The

cost of re-constructing these 3 Bridges to better designs

is estimated at $140,000.
